Remembering Eva Ricciarelli

I wanted to acknowledge the founder of our garden club Eva Ricciarelli who passed away Aug. 30, 2013.

At the age of 71 she started the Friends of Heirloom Flowers Garden Club with the purpose of providing volunteer opportunities for gardening lovers. She wanted to provide help to the city of Fremont by beautifying 2 historical parks in Fremont that needed a lot of work. The city of Fremont gave to Eva the Niles Rose Garden and the Shinn Park to work her magic. And magic it was. With just a small band of volunteers and little money the gardens were transformed to beautiful areas to visit, walk around and just enjoy the colors and scents. The coming year 2014 would have been the 20 year anniversary of the beginning of Eva's garden club. FOHF has flourished with many new members with a love for gardening and Eva's legacy will continue for many more years to come. When visiting these gardens remember Eva and the love and beauty she brought for all to see. Our sincere thoughts go out to the Ricciarelli Family and I want them to know Eva was a warm and caring LADY and special to so many people.

The Friends of Heirloom Flowers Garden Club is a volunteer garden club that has brought beauty back to the Shinn Park and Arboretum,  one of Fremont's historical parks.  FOHFGC was founded in 1994 by Eva Ricciarelli and is a not-for-profit club and part of the Bay Bridges District of the California Garden Clubs.  We have received numerous awards from CGCI  both for our gardens and for our members and we continue to strive to maintain this standard of excellence.

Our members volunteer 2 hours of their time weekly to redesign and beautify the flower gardens at Shinn Historical Park & Arboretum.  We invite you to join us on Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. to noon at:

 Shinn Park,

1251 Peralta Blvd.,

Fremont.

We hold membership meetings the 3rd Wednesday of the month where we often feature speakers on a variety of gardening topics.  We have a regular schedule of field trips  (open to the general public) to area gardens or garden-related sites.

Enjoy the pictures of our park that were taken by our Historian, Cecilia Oshiro!!
