Name: nestrada Interest in Niles: My family moved to Fremont in 1978 from the east coast. I was born in Puerto Rico. One of the first neigborhoods we drove by looking for a place to live in was Niles, and fell in love with it. Throught the years we moved from Glenmoore, to Sundale, to Brookvale, and finally after our kids went off to college, we found our spot in the beautiful Niles Canyon area.
We have been Niles area residents for 10 yrs. -- Love the hills, open spaces, great antiquing shops and friendly neighbors. We got to know a few of the local residents that remembered their earlier days of Old Town-Niles. The gypsy family by the creek, Elderberry Park, the Still mill, the Ca. Brick pottery. the Cannery.
My father loved the fact that this house was just like his mothers house, where he grew up. Together we would sit on the porch on weekends to count the cows in the hills, work in the vegetable garden, or have a lively game of domino on the side deck while he told us his childhood adventures with his twin brother, as they sold roasted peanuts in town to get enough money to pay to watch Charlie Chaplin silent movies --- from behind the screen! (Cost was .05 vs. .08)
Other: The Now and Then pictures of the Charlie Chaplin "The Tramp" shows a scene that was supposedly shot right across the street from my house.
